Along with the one year anniversary announcement, Samsung is rolling out a couple new features; store coupon and cloud storage. Samsung also announced that over 500 banks and credit unions support Samsung Pay with over 80 percent of the debit and credit card market supporting Samsung Pay.
The new Samsung Pay version provides the ability to search, save, and redeem coupons at select retailers. You can upload a membership or loyalty card within Samsung Pay and then view all of the offers and coupons these vendors may offer. You can also redeem gift cards and earn rewards with merchant programs.
As a smartphone enthusiast, I’ve had to setup Samsung Pay a number of times on various devices. Thankfully, Samsung rolled out support for cloud storage, through your Samsung account, so you can restore membership, gift, and Samsung Rewards cards. To ensure security, you will still have to add your bank and credit cards manually.
While Samsung Pay is widely supported, my bank still hasn’t yet jumped on the bandwagon. User forums at USAA indicate support is coming soon though, but I was hoping to see this with the one year anniversary announcement.
To celebrate one year of support in the US, Samsung is offering over $100,00 in prizes starting today. You can view all the details on the official rules page. Samsung is planning to give away 365 Gear S2 smartwatches, which now work with Samsung Pay under a current beta program. The Gear S2 uses NFC for Samsung Pay while the upcoming Gear S3 smartwatches use NFC and MST technologies.
